The Effect of Demographic Characteristics on Sport Motiviation in the Elderly of North Khorasan Province (Year 2018)

Abstract
Objectives: Various studies have shown that motiviation in sports activities contributes to the quality of life of elder people.The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships effect of demographic characteristics of elderly people in North Khorasan province on the sport motiviation in these subjects.
Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, the population of the study included elderly people in North Khorasan Province (47700 people). Using a multi-stage random sampling method, 381 people were enrolled in this study. Data collection tools were demographic and sports motiviation questionnaire. For data analysis, Software SPSS version 16 used and the level of significance was set at α = 0.05.
Results: The results of the study showed that there is a significant negative relationship between the level of sport motiviation and age (P <0.05). Also, there was a significant difference between sport motiviation based on job status and educational qualification (P <0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the amount of sport motiviation based on gender, marital status and life status (P <0.05).
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, some of the demographic factors such as age, level of education and Job status affect the motiviation rate of elderly people in North Khorasan province in sporting activities. Therefore, the relationship between socio-economic factors (education, income) and sports motiviation in elderly people can be considered.
